Meet the Artist

Meet the visionary artist behind La Vie Boheme, Kate Lossen, the creative force handcrafting and painting each exquisite piece. Drawing inspiration from her diverse background in Interior Design, photography, and ceramics, Kate seamlessly intertwines her love for nature and pattern design into every creation.

"I spend my days immersed in the world of wallpaper, fabrics, and enchanting chinoiserie for my clients. I am always making custom paintings, photography and decor pieces for them.  And I thought, why not make it available for everyone?"  Kate's studio, nestled in Lexington, Kentucky, is just a stone's throw away from the iconic Keeneland Racecourse.

Growing up in the Thoroughbred business, Kate reminisces about her living in a host of houses herself growing up and having friends that inspired her as well.  "Growing up in Lexington you get to see some fabulous houses.  I still have dreams about being at Cave Hill, owned by Governor Brown and Phylis George, she was so absolutely iconic and even at 6 or 7 I remember wanting to decorate my bedroom just like hers.  We had friends that had mansions with elevators and antiques and Picasso's, and we had friends that had a dirt floor in their kitchen with gorgeous hand blocked tapestries and Matisse prints.  I just loved to soak all of it in. The 80s and 90s were a riot of color, bold patterns and texture. Everything in my adulthood has been so neutral and mass-made, I wanted to offer something unique and timeless but makes a statement.  That's where it all started."

Kate's vision extends beyond just design.  She has a collection of photography, original paintings, pottery and home decor. "Every morning, I wake up not knowing what the day will bring creatively. La Vie Boheme is a bohemian life, a blend of experiences and connections."

"As I get more and more into this I'm finding out ways to make it more and more accessible and doable as a one man band.  I'm excited to say that I am in the process of being able to offer things more regularly and not just at market locally but more often dropping collections online so they aren't always sold out.  I'm over the moon with how much support all the designs and products are getting and I have so many more to come out of my head, 2025 will be the year for having the time and space to be able to really expand to all the lovely and amazing people who support this small business, I can't wait!"
